Chic, Travel-Friendly Style | LOU & GREY

Hi ladies!

When I’m traveling I like to stay comfy, when I’m working I like to stay comfy, when I’m living my life I like to stay comfy. (I’m guessing you do too). But the flip-side of the comfy coin is that occasionally comfy starts to look sloppy and there are several places where you don’t want to look sloppy, namely: traveling, working, living your life.

I’ve also found that many brands that cater to the chic and still travel-friendly vibe are typically at a massive price point. This is why I absolutely love Lou & Grey.

Lou & Grey is the perfect intersection of comfy, high quality, and chic style that won’t break the bank.

Here are a few of my current favorites:

Marled Blouson Top

Strappy Racerback Jumpsuit

Fluid Halter Dress

Apprvl NYC Large Rope Tote

Fluid Drawstring Top

Striped Cami Romper

Thrifted Favorites

Hi girls!

We’re currently mid-summer, mid-year, and this is a great time to revise your closet and bring in a few new pieces.

I always feel that thrift stores carry tons of hidden gems and every time I walk into one I’m taken back to when I first started thrifting almost a decade ago. It’s easy to love brand new, fresh off the rack pieces, but sometimes I feel like I leave my thrifted faves out in the cold.

Here is a collection of some of my favorite thrifted pieces who deserve a little time in the spotlight.

Scarf belt · Cut-off 501 Levis

White Fur Coat

Vintage Menswear Vest, 1980s

Vintage Denim Mini-Skirt, 1980s · Silver Earrings, 1990s

Black Jumpsuit · Dooney & Burke belt bag

An Afternoon in Georgetown | Washington DC

90 degree heat with 90% humidity means I’m wearing as little as possible. This floral dress by Sanctuary is perfect for DC summers, light and floaty with a silhouette that hangs away from the body. I realized after shooting for over an hour that I had absolutely zero accessories, but honestly I love it like this. The only additional item I would add is that Calvin Klein Lynn backpack I was carrying all weekend (here’s a dupe from Aldo), frankly it’s too hot for much more.

I’m absolutely obsessed with the brick walls of Georgetown (as well as the shops) and had a great time running around the residential neighborhoods, dipping into the shop along M Street, and (of course) visiting the exorcist stairs.

Blending In

Last weekend was my sister’s graduation from Muhlenberg College and like any family fun there were a few hiccups along the way, the first and biggest being that when Kev and I packed the car for the weekend we forgot to bring his button downs! Of course, we didn’t realize until we arrived on her campaign and needless to say we were not going to attend the weekend’s events without a few collared shirts. We hightailed it to the nearest store to try and find a few shirts for Kev and I may have wandered into the dress section… where I found this adorable number.

There are a few things I look for in dresses:

  • Hem line – I’m 5’3″ and all leg, so if the hem cannot of a dress comes past my mid-thigh I instantly look tiny. Bonus points for a rounded hem (higher on the sides than the front & back).
  • Waist that hits at my actual waistline, these are far and few between.
  • Versatility! A one-off, one-time dress is not my thing. I want something I can wear to work, on the weekend, to happy hour, season-to-season and everywhere in between.

This dress checked all the boxes and was that beautiful olive green I am so in love with, I had to take her home. In just under a week I won this same dress to my sister’s graduation dinner, Sunday brunch, and to work proving that with the right accessories you really can Make It Work.

Dainty Jewelry | J & Co Jewellery

If you know anything about me you know how much I value low maintenance, effortless style. Especially when that style is classic, elegant, and durable. Yes, while durability and style don’t seem to go hand in hand it’s important to vet what comes into your closet, and yes, your jewelry box.

Enter, J & Co Jewellery. I stumbled upon J & Co while on Instagram several months back and was instantly hooked. Affordable with high quality metals seemed a little too good to be true, but I ordered a few pieces and eagerly awaited their arrival.

Almost a full month later – thank you international shipping – my pieces finally arrived! I’ve been wearing them non-stop and can attest to how not only durable, but also adorable they are. Each piece is beautifully shaped and has the kind of quality you can feel.

Here are a just a few of my favorites:

Little Ball Huggies Hoops | $13

Itty Bitty CZ Ring Silver | $20

Balinese Oval Hoop | $20

8” Extra Long Ear Threader | $20

Thick Stacking Ring Silver | $30

Jump(suit)ing into Summer

How is it already summer? Three weeks ago we were all wearing long coats and blasting the heat and today the high is 80 degrees. If it walks like global warming and it talks like global warming…. Am I right?

Despite the freak warm/cold whiplash from earlier in the season this past weekend was beautiful in the 70s each day and K and I took full advantage. I was plagued with a persistent headache all weekend (and therefore not in the mood to bounce around a HIIT work out) so we took to long walks, about 6 miles each day, meandering around downtown DC on Saturday and up to NW DC on Sunday. We strolled through a few museums, ate from food trucks, and stopped into our favorite camera shop for a crash course in a new wide angle lens we’re contemplating.

With all the walking I forwent the heels this weekend and opted for my tried and true Adidas Stan Smiths — I’m due for a new pair any day now! And as someone who’s chilly until it’s 90*F I also took this weekend as a the perfect time to breakout my favorite jumpsuit. I magically found this beauty in a DC thrift shop years ago and it fits like a dream (finding a full body suit that fits my 5’2″ frame and still accommodates a 32″ inseam is no easy feat). I kept accessories minimal with my staple silver bangles, a vintage Dooney & Burke belt bag, and these awesome shades I snagged off Amazon. That plus my humidity-induced poodle curls rounded out the perfect run-around town style.

Day to Night: Our Anniversary Weekend Away

Kevin and I spent this past weekend a touch outside of our home in DC proper, celebrating our four year anniversary! We traveled to the National Harbor in Maryland, only about an hour away with traffic, and totally worth the drive. It was the perfect “getaway” without going too far. We stayed at the Gaylord National Resort and enjoyed waterfront view, ferris wheel rides, and amazing tropical feel the entire weekend.

In the spirit of sakura (Cherry Blossom) season I opted for a floaty pink number by Lush that was perfect for the 80* weather. I swapped my Jimmy Choos for a pair of comfy Jambus (my go to “comfy” heel) and was set for a weekend of sight-seeing, date nights, and oh-so-much food.

On Saturday evening Kev took me out for our four year anniversary dinner to Succotash and in the spirit of “date night” I opted for a LBD wrap dress by Reformation. I prefer to travel light, and kept the same accessories and clutch for the weekend (the print of the pink “day” dress and the style of the LBD “night” ensemble didn’t need too much accessorizing).

It was an amazing, and much needed weekend away and I’m so glad that Kev and I got to celebrate four years together with so much style!
